Donyell Malen, the Dutch forward, didn’t join Borussia Dortmund for their Champions League quarterfinal match against Atlético Madrid because he didn’t recover from a thigh injury in time.
Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, mentioned on Tuesday that Malen, who has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season, wasn’t fit enough to travel.
“Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to recover,” Kehl stated. “He wasn’t available during the weekend and has also caught a bug. It’s disappointing, but everyone else is ready to go.”
Previously, Dortmund stated that Malen got a knock to his thigh while playing for the Netherlands against Germany in a friendly match last month. As a result, he missed Dortmund’s 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich on March 30 and the 1-0 defeat to Stuttgart on Saturday.
