Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, sidelined due to a concussion, is anticipated to sit out for a second consecutive game against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, according to sources briefed by ESPN. While Stroud remains in the concussion protocol, the Texans are closely monitoring his recovery, with one source affirming on Tuesday that he is likely to miss the upcoming game.

Having sustained a concussion during the Texans’ 30-6 defeat against the New York Jets on December 10, Stroud is not expected to participate in Wednesday’s practice as he continues progressing through the protocol.

In the absence of Stroud, the Texans are preparing to field Case Keenum as the starting quarterback. Keenum stepped in for Stroud during Week 15, contributing significantly with a 23-of-36 performance, amassing 229 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception in an overtime victory against the Tennessee Titans, propelling the Texans to an 8-6 record.

To bolster their quarterback options, the Texans signed Tim Boyle, a former Jets quarterback, to the practice squad on Tuesday, as confirmed by sources to ESPN and NFL Network. Boyle, 29, had started two games for the Jets but was benched after an 0-2 record, accumulating 360 yards, 1 touchdown, and 4 interceptions, with his last start against the Atlanta Falcons.

As the Texans navigate Stroud’s absence, the addition of Boyle to the practice squad provides valuable depth and options for the team as they prepare for the upcoming game against the Browns.
