Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco underwent shoulder surgery, rendering him unavailable for Sunday’s matchup against the New England Patriots, as confirmed by Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

Describing the procedure as a cleanup surgery, Reid revealed that Pacheco’s injured shoulder, previously operated on during the offseason, required further attention. Despite missing last week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Pacheco participated in the Chiefs’ walk-through practices this week, with the potential to return to full practice the following week.

Leading up to his absence, Pacheco had an impressive standing, ranking fifth in the NFL in rushing with 779 yards. In Pacheco’s absence against the Bills, Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 39 yards, while Jerick McKinnon contributed 19 yards along with a touchdown.

McKinnon showcased his versatility by catching three passes for 18 yards, with Edwards-Helaire adding two receptions for 29 yards. Coach Reid expressed appreciation for the performance of both replacement running backs, acknowledging their commendable contributions and energy.

In addition to Pacheco’s absence, the Chiefs confirmed the continued unavailability of starting left tackle Donovan Smith, who was sidelined for the second consecutive game due to a neck injury. Wanya Morris, a rookie and third-round draft pick, stepped into the starting role in Smith’s absence during the previous game against the Bills.
