Mark your calendars, as the Farmers Insurance Open is set to kick off on Wednesday, Jan. 24. While the official start may experience a delay due to the persistent marine layer, rest assured that the action will begin a day earlier than usual, with the tournament concluding on Saturday.
Next week, we’ll return to the familiar Thursday-Sunday schedule with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the second of the eight Signature Events of 2024.
Similar to last week’s The American Express, the Farmers will be hosted across multiple courses. However, the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines Golf Course require strategically timed investments.
For those engaging in live betting, keep an eye on players who perform well in the first round on the challenging South Course.
Rain prior to the tournament may lead to lower scores than usual, but historically, the South Course has proven to be the most difficult among all non-majors. It hosted the 2021 U.S. Open, recording scores more than a stroke higher than the Farmers a few months earlier.
PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf enthusiasts should focus on the North Course. With eight starts available in the first two rounds, make sure your lineup rotates through the North. This leaves you with three combinations across two rounds: 4×2, 3×3, and 2×4.
Now, let’s highlight Michael Kim (+320 = Top 20), the pride of Torrey Pines High School, in his eighth appearance at the Farmers.
Kim, who made his first-ever professional start at this tournament, expressed his excitement about returning to Torrey Pines, where he grew up playing.
Despite facing ups and downs in his career, including a T6 at The American Express, Kim remains focused on using his experiences to further his career.
In terms of notable bets, Ludvig Åberg (+100 = Top 20) is a wildcard worth considering, and various parlays featuring Hideki Matsuyama, Adrian Meronk, Shane Lowry, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, and others present enticing opportunities.
Returning to competition is Wilson Furr, who had a challenging debut last week, dealing with a sore back. Keep an eye on his performance at Torrey Pines.
On the flip side, notable withdrawals include Nick Dunlap, the winner of The American Express, who opted out, and Justin Thomas, who, despite his T3 finish at PGA WEST, withdrew from the Farmers.
Tyler McCumber, after returning from surgeries, missed the cut at The American Express, while Maverick McNealy continues his quest to fulfill the terms of his Major Medical Extension.
