Selena Gomez was one of the thousands of soccer fans ready to see Lionel Messi take on LAFC during their match with Inter Miami on Sunday. She has the memes to back up her claims.
When the best soccer player in the world came close to scoring from within the penalty box during the game, the American star couldn’t hold in her excitement, resulting in her relatable, wide-eyed, jaw-dropping reaction.
She posted a screengrab of her famous reaction photo on Instagram Stories along with the caption “Mood” after LAFC goalie John McCarthy stopped Messi from scoring.
Inspite of the fact that he didn’t score, Messi and company ultimately prevailed. However, he did assist on the final two goals of the game’s 3-1 scoreboard, making the Miami football team undefeated over its 11 games since his six-week arrival, as reported by Times staff writer Kevin Baxter. After its second straight match, LAFC, the defending league champion, has now won just twice in its previous nine MLS contests and has dropped to third place in the Western Conference standings.

Given Messi’s arrival, Baxter called the match “part circus and part cultural phenomenon” and said it was the most awaited and hyped match in LAFC history. The league gave out roughly 350 credentials to media from around the world for the thrilling MLS Cup final that took place at the same location last September.
Aside from Gomez, other celebrities attended the game, including rapper Tyga, who was seated in front of her; actors Mario Lopez, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Holland, Ed Norton, and the Lakers’ LeBron James; as well as Dodgers Mookie Betts and Clayton Kershaw; Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams; and British royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

When Gomez was approached by reporters at the arena, she displayed her support for Messi. (Her fractured hand was still in a cast.)
In-game footage, she was heard saying, “Te amo much,” professing her affection for the World Cup victor.
