Iowa running back Leshon Williams and receiver Kaleb Brown have decided to leave the team and plan to enter the transfer portal in December, according to coach Kirk Ferentz on Monday.

Both players had smaller roles this season and participated in only three out of five games.

Williams started in eight games and led the team with 821 rushing yards on 170 carries in 2023. He achieved over 100 rushing yards in three games, including a personal best of 174 yards against Wisconsin.

He ended his career at Iowa with a total of 1,323 rushing yards over 32 games and still has one season of eligibility left.

Brown previously played at Ohio State during his freshman year and joined the Hawkeyes last year, where he started four out of his 11 games, making 22 catches for 215 yards and one touchdown. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The announcement about the players leaving did not explain why they made this decision.

“We thank both players for their contributions to the program and wish them the best as they move forward,” Ferentz said.

Iowa, with a record of 3-2 and 1-1 in the Big Ten, will host Washington, which has a record of 4-2 and 2-1, on Saturday.
