Julio Rodriguez celebrates after a home run in the 5th inning

Julio Rodríguez had a standout game, going 4 for 4 including a 411-foot home run into the left field second deck. Cal Raleigh added two-run homers from both sides of the plate. Logan Gilbert, an All-Star, pitched exceptionally well for the AL West-leading Seattle Mariners in their 8-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Rodríguez, who drove in two runs and scored three times, had his best performance of the year. Despite a slump since mid-June, he had a home run and a double in a win against Baltimore last Thursday, marking his first home run since June 15. This was his second four-hit game of the season and his 10th career-wise.

Manager Scott Servais commented on Rodríguez’s current form, noting a determined approach: “He’s playing with some fire right now.

There’s a sense of wanting to make up for lost opportunities in the first half of the season. I hope he can keep it up.”

Rodríguez’s ninth home run, off rookie Adam Mazur (1-3) in the fifth inning, was hit so powerfully that All-Star left fielder Jurickson Profar could only watch as it sailed into the stands, extending Seattle’s lead to 5-0.

Rodríguez, who also had an RBI single in the first inning, was on base for both of Raleigh’s home runs. He singled before Raleigh’s homer in the third inning and doubled before Raleigh’s line drive to left field in the seventh inning. Raleigh, who leads the team with 17 home runs, also doubled in the ninth inning.
