Jack Edwards will step down after serving as the Boston Bruins play-by-play announcer for 19 years, the team announced on Tuesday.

Starting in 2005, Edwards fulfilled his passion by broadcasting Bruins games on NESN, a role he cherished after working at ESPN for over a decade. He will continue calling Bruins games until the playoffs end.

In recent times, the 67-year-old Edwards has faced challenges with slowed speech, which he has been addressing through therapy. He openly discussed this issue with The Boston Globe back in February.

Acknowledged before the Bruins’ last game of the regular season against the Ottawa Senators, Edwards received a special honor—a golden stick—commemorating his nearly two-decade tenure with the team.

Touched by the gesture, Edwards expressed his gratitude by lifting the stick as fans cheered during the pregame ceremony.

Originally from New Hampshire and a University of New Hampshire graduate, Edwards grew up as a Bruins fan. He feels privileged to conclude his 45-year broadcasting career by covering his beloved team.

In a released statement, Edwards reflected on his retirement, expressing gratitude for the joyous journey of the past 19 years. He credited his family’s support for his career and thanked everyone at the Bruins and NESN for enabling him to realize his lifelong dream.

Before his time with the Bruins, Edwards worked for television stations in Rhode Island and Boston, before joining ESPN in 1991.
