Trevor Lawrence has only had a few “clean” games in his NFL career. When he manages to do this, the Jacksonville Jaguars become hard to beat.
On Sunday, Lawrence had no sacks, no interceptions, and no fumbles as the Jaguars defeated New England 32-16 at Wembley Stadium in London. He improved his record to 5-1 in these clean games, with the only loss coming in 2022 when receiver Christian Kirk was stopped just short of the goal line on the last play in a 23-17 defeat to the New York Giants.
Having so few clean games shows Lawrence’s tendency for turnovers; he has the most in the league since he entered in 2021. His success in these games also demonstrates that when he has time to throw and avoids forcing passes, he performs well.
Lawrence completed 15 of 20 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots. His best play was a perfectly thrown 58-yarder to rookie Brian Thomas Jr. that helped set up the first of Tank Bigsby’s two rushing touchdowns.
In his last four games, Lawrence has thrown for 967 yards, with seven touchdown passes, two interceptions, and no fumbles.
“Let’s hope he’s streaky and he gets on a streak,” coach Doug Pederson said Monday. “That’s what we all hope for. I think, too, he’s continuing to grow with what we’re doing and learning. … He’s done a great job for us. If this is him getting on a streak, let’s keep it going, let’s stay with the hot hand.”
