The Jacksonville Jaguars were leading by three points late in the third quarter on Sunday and had a chance to extend their lead after Tank Bigsby made a 58-yard run that put them at the Houston 4-yard line.
However, instead of scoring, the Jaguars ended up with nothing, and the Texans came back to win 24-20, leaving Jacksonville (0-4) still searching for a victory.
After Bigsby’s run, he had two more carries that brought them to the 2-yard line. Trevor Lawrence then threw an incomplete pass intended for Gabe Davis, setting up a fourth down.
Jacksonville decided to go for it, but Lawrence was stopped for no gain at the start of the fourth quarter.
“Coach puts it in our hands, so we got to figure it out and make the play,” Lawrence said. “We had the opportunity. I felt like we had some good looks down there to do more with it and we weren’t able to capitalize.”
Coach Doug Pederson chose not to comment on that play.
“It’s a moot point,” he said. “It doesn’t matter now, so I won’t talk about it.”
Lawrence passed for 169 yards and two touchdowns, extending his streak of starts without a win to nine games.
The Jaguars are 0-4 for the first time since they lost five straight to start the 2021 season. Tennessee is the only other winless team in the NFL, heading into a Monday night game against Miami with an 0-3 record.
“No one likes to work all week to lose,” running back Travis Etienne said. “It’s kind of that same feeling, it’s kind of getting repetitive. No one likes that. Everyone’s frustrated but man, talking about it won’t help us. We just have to keep working… we just have to finish.”
Pederson seemed surprised when asked if he was worried about his job after the poor start.
