The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing Game 6 of their NBA playoff series against the Orlando Magic without center Jarrett Allen, who is missing his second consecutive game due to a bruised rib.
Allen, who has been a key player for the Cavs in the series, also sat out Game 5, which Cleveland won 104-103 at home on Tuesday. He sustained the injury from an elbow to the ribs during the second half of Game 4, a 23-point road loss last weekend.
Despite Allen’s absence, the Cavs lead the Eastern Conference series 3-2 and have the opportunity to clinch the series with a win over the Magic on Friday night. The Magic won Games 3 and 4 at home by a combined 61 points.
If necessary, Game 7 will be held on Sunday in Cleveland. Allen traveled with the team to Orlando, but his status was uncertain 90 minutes before the game. “We’ll see,” said Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff when asked about Allen’s potential to play.
Bickerstaff emphasized the team’s concern for Allen’s safety due to his injury, especially considering its impact on his ability to move freely and play effectively.
Allen has been the most reliable player for Cleveland in the series, averaging 17 points and 13.8 rebounds in four games.
In Game 5, with Allen sidelined, the Cavs moved forward Evan Mobley to the center position, started Isaac Okoro, and provided more playing time to reserves Tristan Thompson and Marcus Morris Sr.
Morris made a significant contribution off the bench with 12 points in Game 5.
