The Winnipeg Jets made history on Tuesday with a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers, marking the first time in NHL history a team has won 15 of its first 16 games in a season. Center Mark Scheifele, who scored two goals in the victory, acknowledged the team’s success but emphasized that the focus is already on the next game. Despite their historic start, the Jets understand that their journey is just beginning, and they remain committed to continual improvement.

The Jets’ offensive firepower has been one of the main stories of their season. Through 15 games, they have scored five or more goals in half of those contests, accumulating 73 goals, the third-most in the past 30 years for any team in its first 16 games. Remarkably, they are one of only four teams since 1967-68 to lead the league in both goals scored and goals allowed per game. This offensive juggernaut is backed by strong goaltending, as Connor Hellebuyck, with a 12-1-0 record, made crucial saves to secure the win against the Rangers.

Road games have been another area where the Jets have excelled. With their victory in New York, they improved to a perfect 7-0-0 record on the road, setting an NHL record for the most goals (36) by any team in its first seven away games. Head coach Scott Arniel, promoted from associate coach in the offseason, noted that the team’s focus on “banking points” early in the season has helped them navigate their tough division and exceed expectations.

In their win over the Rangers, the Jets showcased their depth and offensive balance. Kyle Connor scored twice, while Gabriel Vilardi and Vladislav Namestnikov each contributed a goal. Scheifele’s two goals were pivotal, with his second coming early in the third period to give the Jets a 4-2 lead. Although the Rangers responded with a goal from Kaapo Kakko to narrow the gap, Namestnikov sealed the win with a goal, and Connor added an empty-netter to cap the scoreline.

Despite their impressive start, the Jets maintain a humble approach. Connor highlighted the collective nature of the team’s success, with contributions coming from all lines and areas of the game. The team is not resting on its laurels, as the players and coaching staff continue to focus on getting better. As the Jets head into upcoming road games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, they remain determined to build on their early achievements and maintain their high level of play throughout the season.
