After firing offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey in the middle of the 2023 season, the Bills asked Joe Brady to take over.
Under Brady’s leadership, Buffalo won the AFC East and beat Pittsburgh in the wild card round before losing to Kansas City in the divisional round. Brady showed why he should stay as the team’s offensive coordinator.
The Bills have made many changes to their offensive players this offseason. But as Brady mentioned in his press conference on Tuesday, the team still has its quarterback.
Brady said, “At the end of the day, this is Josh Allen’s offense.”
Although Brady called plays in 2023, he’s now in charge of building the offense from the beginning to the end. Brady believes in certain offensive principles, but his main aim is to plan around the players’ strengths, especially Allen’s.
Brady explained, “I think the way you kind of look at it is, what’s going to slow your players down, right? There are certain things that Josh Allen’s been doing for years here and the last thing I want to do is for him to have to think [being] out there making some calls.”
“If there are things that I believe would make it easier for the guys to learn, then we’ll consider those. But if it’s something that would slow down Josh Allen, we won’t change it.”
Brady emphasized that all players need to be ready to contribute “Last year, things didn’t go exactly as we hoped, and it didn’t end the way we wanted it to,” Brady said.
“But the guys played together, and it’s like, in this offense, everyone has to contribute. No one is more important than the team.
“But, for someone else to succeed, I have to do my job so they can succeed, and vice versa. That’s the main thing we’re focusing on now.”
