Most teams began their OTAs last week, but the Bengals will start theirs tomorrow. Their starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, will not have any restrictions.
Offensive coordinator Mike Pitcher explained to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com that there won’t be a pitch count on Burrow, who suffered a wrist injury last November.
“We designed the whole thing to stay within the constraints of where the medical people think he should be and where he wants to be right now,” Pitcher said. “Nobody is sitting there with a special pitch counter. But we’ve been smart in how we put it together.”
Pitcher also mentioned that Burrow currently has “all his range and power.”
This suggests that Burrow might have his first normal training camp. In previous years, there were obstacles: in 2020, there wasn’t one, in 2021 he was recovering from a torn ACL, in 2022 he had an appendectomy, and last year, a calf injury.
When healthy, Burrow is one of the league’s top quarterbacks. However, health is crucial. In four years as a starter, he has had two major injuries.
The Bengals’ potential success, including a possible first Super Bowl win, hinges on his health.
