Joe Flacco is making a move to the Indianapolis Colts following his significant contributions to Cleveland Brown’s journey to the playoffs and his commendable achievement of winning the AP Comeback Player of the Year Award.

According to a source familiar with the negotiations, Flacco and the Colts have reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $4.5 million guaranteed. This information was disclosed to The Associated Press on Wednesday under the condition of anonymity, as the contract is yet to be finalized.

Additionally, Flacco’s deal includes incentives that could elevate its total worth to $8.7 million. Hailing from New Jersey, Flacco, a former Super Bowl MVP with the Baltimore Ravens, received a call from Cleveland in November while he was spending time with his family.

He delivered impressive performances, securing a record of 4-1 in five starts and impressively surpassing the 300-yard mark in four consecutive games, accompanied by 13 touchdown passes.

Despite his desire to continue with the Browns as a backup for Deshaun Watson, Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, informed the AP that the Browns did not extend an offer to him.

As an alternative, the Browns have opted to enlist Jameis Winston to fulfill the role of Watson’s backup.

Flacco opted to decline an offer from the Philadelphia Eagles in favor of joining the Colts. Notably, the New Orleans Saints also expressed interest in acquiring the veteran quarterback.

In his new role with the Colts, Flacco will play a crucial part in mentoring Anthony Richardson. The Colts made this move after letting go of veteran backup Gardner Minshew, who has since joined the Las Vegas Raiders.

Richardson, who was selected as the No. 4 overall pick in the previous year’s draft, displayed promise with a record of 2-2 before his season was cut short due to a shoulder injury. With Minshew on the roster, the Colts achieved a 7-6 record.
