Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco took the starting role for the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, as usual starter Anthony Richardson continued to recover from an oblique injury.

Richardson, initially expected to play after practicing throughout the week, was downgraded to a game-time decision by coach Shane Steichen after being listed as limited in practice on Friday. His injury, sustained in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, also caused him to miss last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Anthony Richardson’s injury raised concerns over his availability, but the Colts opted to keep him as the emergency No. 3 quarterback for the game. Richardson had practiced as a full participant on Thursday, but a setback on Friday led to caution regarding his recovery. Coach Steichen confirmed the decision to bench him in favor of Flacco, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding Richardson’s rehabilitation timeline.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. was cleared to play, despite dealing with a back injury that initially threatened to derail his season. Earlier in the week, the Colts considered placing Pittman on injured reserve, which would have sidelined him for at least four weeks. However, his situation improved, and he was unexpectedly designated as a full participant in Friday’s practice, allowing him to suit up for Sunday’s game.

Another key player for the Colts, wide receiver Josh Downs, also returned to the field after missing two practices due to a toe injury. His availability, along with Pittman’s, provided a boost to the Colts’ offense, giving quarterback Joe Flacco more options in the passing game despite the absence of their usual starting quarterback.
