Philadelphia 76ers star player Joel Embiid has received a diagnosis of Bell’s palsy, a condition causing facial paralysis. He shared that he’s been experiencing symptoms since before the play-in tournament.
During a recent press conference after scoring 50 points in the Sixers’ victory over the New York Knicks in Game 3, Embiid wore sunglasses to address his discomfort, mentioning blurred vision and dry eyes among his struggles.
Embiid revealed that he first noticed the symptoms a couple of days before the Sixers faced the Miami Heat on April 17. Despite dealing with migraines and discomfort, he initially dismissed it, only informing doctors later when he couldn’t ignore the signs anymore.
The reigning NBA MVP had an outstanding performance in Game 3, displaying resilience despite his health challenges. However, he acknowledged the difficulties posed by Bell’s palsy and emphasized his determination to push through without making excuses.
As the series against the Knicks continues, with New York leading 2-1, Embiid remains uncertain about his recovery timeline. He expressed hope for a swift resolution while maintaining a positive outlook despite the setback.
