This time last year, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was recovering from a torn ACL, while head coach Jonathan Gannon and offensive coordinator Drew Petzing were getting ready to introduce a new scheme during offseason workouts.
Because of his injury, Murray couldn’t join in on-field activities then. But he returned for the final eight regular-season games without any issues. Now, he’s all set to fully participate this spring. Gannon, speaking from the league meetings this week, believes this will help Murray improve even more as a player.
“Being in the spring and going through spring, it’s going to help his development within our system,” Gannon said. “We changed his stance, and he adapted well to it. He understands why we did it, and he’s on board with it now.
He’ll get a lot of reps in the spring. That’s why I believe his best football is still ahead of him, which is interesting to say because he’s already playing at a high level. But I think he’ll keep getting better.”
The Cardinals are expected to target a receiver early in the draft. The hope in Arizona is that with more firepower and a full offseason, Murray will be set up for success in his sixth pro season.
