Jordan Travis, the incoming rookie quarterback for the New York Jets, acknowledged the prospect of succeeding Aaron Rodgers, expressing his focus on the present while also considering the future transition.
Travis, selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft following a notable senior season at Florida State, impressed despite a leg injury that impacted his draft stock. His performance, highlighted by a 63.9% completion rate, 2,756 passing yards, and 20 touchdowns with only two interceptions in 11 appearances, demonstrated his potential.
Although Travis might not have ranked among top quarterback prospects like Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, his abilities suggest he could have been drafted earlier if not for his injury.
Joining the Jets, Travis aims to learn from both Rodgers and veteran backup Tyrod Taylor, who have shown enthusiasm in mentoring him. The Jets’ coaching staff, particularly head coach Robert Saleh, sees Travis as a raw talent with significant room for growth, describing him as a “ball of clay” with immense athletic prowess.
Saleh emphasized Travis’s need for development in refining his skills beyond sheer athleticism, highlighting the potential for him to become a formidable NFL player with proper coaching.
While Rodgers remains, the Jets’ starting quarterback for the upcoming season, there’s confidence within the organization, including Travis himself, in his ability to eventually assume the starting role post-Rodgers era. The supportive environment, coupled with Travis’s determination to improve and contribute to the team, sets the stage for an intriguing transition in the Jets’ quarterback dynamics.
