Jose Siri made an amazing catch in the top of the ninth inning and then got a hit in the bottom half, helping the Tampa Bay Rays win 4-3 against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.
Amed Rosario doubled to start the ninth, moved to third on Alex Jackson’s sacrifice bunt, and scored on Siri’s hit.
Rays pitcher Pete Fairbanks held off the Athletics in the ninth despite giving up a leadoff double to Miguel Andújar. He retired the next three batters, including a tough catch by Siri on a hit by Zack Gelof.
Siri said his catch was “pretty impressive” and he stayed focused throughout.
Andújar scored a sacrifice fly in the fourth, putting the Athletics ahead 2-1 with an RBI infield single in the sixth.
Oakland tied the game at 3 in the eighth inning when Max Schuemann scored on a play that involved a throw to second base and then a return to home plate.
Isaac Paredes hit an RBI double in the seventh to give Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead. Tampa Bay leveled the score at 2 in the sixth inning with a run-scoring single by pinch-hitter Jonathan Aranda.
