Josh Bell hit a home run, and Max Meyer pitched well, allowing only one run in six innings, as the Miami Marlins defeated the Atlanta Braves 5-1 at home for their first win of the season in their ballpark.

Bell’s homer came in the first inning off Braves pitcher Chris Sale, barely clearing the left-field wall in the windy conditions of loanDepot Park. It marked Bell’s second home run of the season.

Meyer, who has had a strong start to the season, held the Braves’ potent offense to just one run on six hits while striking out a career-high seven batters without issuing a walk. This performance followed his first career win last Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals, where he also allowed only one run in six innings.

Bryan De La Cruz extended the Marlins’ lead to 5-0 with a two-out, bases-loaded double in the fifth inning off Sale. This big hit brought in Luis Arraez, Bell, and Jake Burger to score.

Atlanta’s Austin Riley managed a leadoff triple off Meyer in the sixth inning and later scored on a groundout by Marcell Ozuna. Ozuna, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the second inning, was one of the few bright spots for the Braves.

The Marlins’ bullpen also performed well, with Calvin Faucher, Anthony Bender, and Tanner Scott combining for three scoreless innings to close out the game.
