Josh Jacobs surprised many by leaving the Las Vegas Raiders to join the Green Bay Packers this off-season. The Packers are known for building their team primarily through the draft and not making big moves in free agency.
In a recent interview, Jacobs explained why he chose to leave the Raiders.
Analyst Dov Kleiman shared a clip from a podcast where Jacobs discussed his early frustrations with the Raiders. He mentioned his background at Alabama where he went to the championship every year. Jacobs recalled feeling frustrated after losing his first NFL game and being told by a veteran to accept losing in the NFL, which he found hard to accept.
Jacobs emphasized the hard work he and his teammates put in and expressed disappointment in not seeing better results. He questioned the idea of returning to the Raiders at a reduced salary if they weren’t winning games.
The Packers offered Jacobs a significant contract: four years for $48 million, a substantial amount for a running back.
Green Bay’s decision to let go of Aaron Jones in free agency and replace him with Jacobs reflects their belief that he can lead their running game for years to come and help the team progress after a playoff win with Jordan Love as starting quarterback last season.
