Brad Stevens, the president of basketball operations for the Celtics, saw Jrue Holiday’s trade from Milwaukee to Portland as a golden opportunity. Holiday, known for his defensive prowess, became a vital part of Boston’s team after being traded for Damian Lillard.
Now, Stevens has ensured that Holiday remains with the Celtics for the long haul. Holiday has agreed to a four-year extension worth $135 million, according to his agent Jason Glushon. This deal will keep him with the team until the 2027-28 season, as he turns down his $37.5 million player option for the upcoming season.
Holiday, who is 33 years old, filled the gap left by Marcus Smart’s departure during the offseason. Although his scoring has dipped to 12.5 points per game, his shooting from beyond the arc has reached a career-high 43.1%, and he’s averaging a career-best 5.4 rebounds.
With a stellar record of 62-17, the Celtics have already secured the top seed in the NBA, ensuring home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.
