Juventus’ inconsistent performance continued as they settled for a goalless draw against Torino in a Serie A derby on Saturday.
Dušan Vlahović came close to scoring for Juve, hitting the post in one of their few clear chances. However, Torino also posed a threat, keeping Juventus on their toes defensively.
Juventus has struggled recently, winning only one of their last six league matches and slipping to third place in Serie A. Despite this, they maintained a four-point lead over fourth-placed Bologna, who also drew 0-0 at home against Monza.
Juventus had been dominant in the derby, not losing to Torino for nine years. The last time Torino managed to secure a draw was over two years ago.
Early in the game, Juventus had a golden opportunity to score when Federico Chiesa delivered a cross from the right to an unmarked Vlahović, but his shot hit the post.
Vlahović had another chance later in the first half, but Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić made a remarkable save with his foot.
Although Torino thought they had scored early in the second half through Duván Zapata, it was disallowed due to a foul by Torino defender Raoul Bellanova on Juventus midfielder Filip Kostić.
As the game progressed, Torino gained confidence and came close to scoring around the hour mark, but Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny made a superb save to deny Antonio Sanabria’s header.
At the end of the match, Szczęsny sustained a bloody nose after being accidentally elbowed in the face by Adam Masina. Masina wasn’t shown a card, but Torino coach Ivan Jurić was sent off for dissent.
