The England captain made his mark in the Bundesliga once again, notching his 31st goal in the league as Bayern Munich secured a convincing 5-2 victory against bottom-placed Darmstadt.

Kane’s header from Joshua Kimmich’s delivery before halftime not only contributed to Bayern’s triumph but also set a new milestone for goals scored in a debut Bundesliga season, surpassing Uwe Seeler’s long-standing record of 30 goals for Hamburg in the inaugural Bundesliga campaign of 1963-64.

This achievement also marked a personal best for Kane, surpassing his previous record of 30 league goals in a single season, achieved during his tenure with Tottenham in the Premier League in 2018 and again last season.

However, Kane’s jubilation was marred by an ankle injury sustained late in the game, as he collided with the post while attempting to reach the ball. Consequently, his availability for England’s upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium is uncertain.

Including his performances in the Champions League, where Bayern is set to face Kane’s former club Arsenal, the 30-year-old forward has netted an impressive 37 goals in 36 appearances for Bayern this season.

With eight rounds of Bundesliga action remaining, Kane remains within striking distance of Robert Lewandowski’s record of 41 goals in a single season.

Despite Darmstadt briefly shocking Bayern with a goal from Tim Skarke, the visitors swiftly responded, with Kane inadvertently assisting Jamal Musiala’s equalizer. Kane then restored Bayern’s lead with a goal just before halftime. Musiala grabbed his second of the game, followed by a strike from Serge Gnabry, before Kane was forced off due to his injury.

Bayern’s Mathys Tel added a fifth goal in stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive victory. Although Darmstadt managed to find some consolation through Oscar Vilhelmsson’s goal, the promoted side remains rooted to the bottom of the table, now six points adrift of safety.

Bayern’s win helped close the gap behind Bayer Leverkusen to seven points, with the league leaders set to face Freiburg on Sunday in pursuit of their first Bundesliga title.
