Six years after parting ways with Kareem Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs have brought back the veteran running back, signing him to their practice squad. This move follows an urgent need for reinforcements after starting running back Isiah Pacheco suffered a broken fibula during the Chiefs’ recent game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hunt originally joined the Chiefs in 2017 as a third-round draft pick, the same year they selected quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He quickly made a name for himself, leading the NFL in rushing yards during his rookie season with 1,327 yards. In addition to his rushing success, he caught 53 passes and scored 11 touchdowns, making him a key piece of the Chiefs’ offense.

Hunt’s promising career was derailed in 2018 after a video surfaced showing him in a physical altercation with a woman at a Cleveland hotel. The incident led to his placement on the NFL’s commissioner’s exempt list. The Chiefs released Hunt shortly after, citing his lack of transparency when they inquired about the situation.

Following his release, Hunt spent five seasons with the Cleveland Browns, where he saw moderate success, particularly in 2020 when he rushed for 841 yards and caught 38 passes. Last season, he posted 411 rushing yards and 15 receptions. Now 29, Hunt is back with the Chiefs, looking to contribute to the team once again as they navigate a tough season.
