Kevin Owens found himself in a WrestleMania main event for the second consecutive year in 2023. However, in a recent interview, the former Universal Champion expressed dissatisfaction with his post-show booking.
At WrestleMania 39, Owens and Sami Zayn teamed up to seize victory from The Usos, claiming the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. Their reign lasted 153 days until they were dethroned by The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest and Finn Balor as Payback 2023.
Speaking to Alex McCarthy of Mail Sport ahead of Elimination Chamber, Owens candidly addressed his feelings about their tag title reign. Initially jesting and requesting another question, Owens then shared his genuine perspective:
“Me and Sami worked our a**es off to deliver main events on RAW every week that had people going wild, and we succeeded. I’m not one to toot my own horn, I am not, but I think Sami and I did a lot of special things as champions that went under the radar because they weren’t on pay-per-views,” Owens remarked.
“They weren’t under the big bright lights. They were usually on RAW.”
Their triumph over The Usos headlined the first night of WrestleMania 39, marking the first occasion that a tag title match closed WWE’s premier annual event.
