Khabib Nurmagomedov voices his skepticism about one of the high-profile matchups set for UFC 300, scheduled to take place over a month from now, as the UFC prepares for an epic event.
Headlined by Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill, the Las Vegas card features Zhang Weili defending her UFC women’s strawweight title against compatriot Yan Xiaonan, with Justin Gaethje also defending his BMF title against Max Holloway.
However, Nurmagomedov expresses his reservations about the Gaethje vs. Holloway bout, arguing that it disrupts the UFC lightweight title picture, echoing sentiments shared by Joe Rogan.
Nurmagomedov questions the logic behind the fight, stating, “All respect for Max Holloway, but I don’t know, and I don’t understand why UFC make this fight. Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway: It makes no sense – [that’s] my opinion.”
He further elaborates on his stance, suggesting that Holloway should face Ilia Topuria next, while Gaethje should take on Islam Makhachev, with the winners eventually squaring off for a title shot.
Expressing confusion over the UFC’s decision-making, Nurmagomedov emphasizes Makhachev’s readiness to face any opponent.
Makhachev, who last fought in October at UFC 294, is yet to secure a fight for this year. However, UFC 300 could potentially determine the next lightweight title challenger, with contenders like Gaethje, Arman Tsarukyan, and Charles Oliveira also featured on the card.
