The Green Bay Packers are bringing in kicker Brandon McManus, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The source spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the signing has not yet been officially announced.
This move follows the NFL’s decision last month that there was not enough evidence to support claims that McManus sexually assaulted two flight attendants during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ trip to London last year. The league has closed the case but can reopen it if new evidence appears.
A civil lawsuit is still ongoing in Duval County Circuit Court in Florida. Attempts to reach the lawyers for the women involved have not been successful.
In court documents filed in late May and again in early September, the women alleged that McManus tried to kiss one of them and rubbed against both while they were doing their jobs during the trans-Atlantic flight on September 28, 2023. The team was traveling for games in England.
McManus had signed with Washington as a free agent in March and was on their roster when the lawsuit was filed, but they released him shortly after.
The 33-year-old kicker joins the Packers after rookie Brayden Narveson missed his fifth field goal this season in a game against Arizona. Green Bay has had a tough time finding a dependable kicker since Mason Crosby, who was the team’s kicker from 2007 to 2022, retired as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.
The Packers picked Anders Carlson from Auburn in the sixth round of the 2023 draft, but he ended an inconsistent rookie season by missing a crucial 41-yard field goal in a playoff loss to San Francisco.
After Carlson and veteran Greg Joseph competed during training camp, the Packers decided to claim Narveson off waivers from the Tennessee Titans.
Narveson has made 12 out of 17 field goal attempts this season but did not attempt any from longer than 49 yards.
McManus, originally from Philadelphia, played college football at Temple and spent his first nine seasons with the Denver Broncos, winning the Super Bowl in the 2015 season. He played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023.
