Klay Thompson, known for his memorable performances as Stephen Curry’s partner on the court for the Golden State Warriors, faced a tough night in what could be his last game before entering free agency this summer.

Despite past heroics and standout plays, Thompson struggled to make an impact, missing all 10 of his shot attempts in a crucial play-in tournament loss against the Sacramento Kings.

Teammate Curry expressed support, acknowledging Thompson’s desire to perform better in such significant moments. Thompson’s disappointing performance marked a stark contrast to his earlier career highlights, like his 37-point quarter in 2015 or his 60-point game in 2016.

However, Thompson has faced challenges, including significant injuries that sidelined him for two seasons. Despite returning to help the Warriors secure a championship in 2022, Thompson has encountered difficulties finding his rhythm this season.

That concluded the last season of a five-year deal worth nearly $190 million, and now he’s poised to become a free agent in July.

The Warriors have to figure out how much they’re willing to offer a 34-year-old whose prime years seem to be behind him due to injuries. Meanwhile, Thompson has to decide if he’s okay with taking a smaller salary or if he’d prefer to end his career elsewhere.

Coach Steve Kerr emphasized the importance of having Klay back despite his tough game. Thompson has been integral to the Warriors’ success, contributing to four championships and six Finals appearances between 2015 and 2022.

His impressive record of 2,481 made 3-pointers in the regular season ranks sixth in NBA history, and his 501 playoff 3-pointers are second only to Curry.

Thompson didn’t speak to the press after the game but is expected to address his future on Wednesday. Draymond Green expressed confidence that Thompson will make the best decision for himself, and the team will do what’s best for the organization.

This season marked the first time the Warriors missed the playoffs with Curry, Thompson, and Green all healthy. Despite this, their 12 seasons as teammates rank second only to San Antonio’s Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili.

Curry reflected on their shared experiences, expressing his desire to keep playing alongside his teammates, emphasizing their mutual goal of winning.
