Dean Kremer pitched for seven innings, allowing only two runs. Adley Rutschman extended his hitting streak to 11 games as the Baltimore Orioles beat the New York Yankees 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Baltimore won the first two games of a four-game series between the AL East’s top teams and took a one-game lead in the AL East, which is the biggest lead they’ve had this season.
Juan Soto hit a 447-foot homer and Austin Wells also had a solo drive for the Yankees, who have lost four of their last six games and only scored two runs in the series.
Kremer, who got his second win of the season, matched his longest outing, giving up four hits and striking out four. He gave up a leadoff homer to Wells in the third inning and a solo homer to Soto in the sixth inning.
However, he also got three double-play grounders. Jacob Webb got four outs, including a strikeout of Aaron Judge, to earn his first save since joining the Orioles last season.
The Yankees struggled with runners in scoring position again, going 0 for 1, as Judge grounded into an inning-ending forceout in the third inning.
“We’re having good at-bats, we’re just not breaking through,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Especially when you’re playing a good team, you have to take advantage of some opportunities.”
