LA Galaxy announced on Wednesday that they have signed Mathias “Zanka” Jørgensen from Belgian Pro League team Anderlecht.
The 34-year-old Danish defender joins the MLS club on a two-year contract and brings extensive experience from his successful career.
Jørgensen has played over 500 professional matches in top leagues across England (with Brentford and Huddersfield Town), Germany (Fortuna Düsseldorf), the Netherlands (PSV Eindhoven), Denmark (FC Copenhagen), and Turkey (Fenerbahçe).
The Denmark international, who has earned 37 caps for his country, also has a wealth of experience in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
“We are excited to have Zanka join LA Galaxy,” said General Manager Will Kuntz. “He is a five-time Danish League and Danish Cup champion, with experience in the English Premier League, and has represented Denmark in more than 30 matches, including at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.”
“Zanka’s experience and quality will be a great addition to our squad as we prepare for multiple competitions in the coming season.”
According to the team, Jørgensen “will occupy an international roster spot and will officially join the Galaxy roster once his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa are received.”
