Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton surrendered himself to authorities on Sunday night and has been formally charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery as of today.

In response to these developments, Sutton’s legal representatives, Todd Foster and Jason Setchen, have issued a statement.

“On March 31, 2024, Mr. Cameron Sutton voluntarily surrendered himself to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He was subsequently released on April 1, 2024, on his own recognizance. Following a thorough investigation into the matter, the Office of the State Attorney has opted to pursue a single misdemeanor charge. Both Mr. Sutton and the mother of his children are seeking privacy in this situation, viewing it as a family matter that they aim to address within the family,” the attorneys conveyed.

Last week, the Lions parted ways with Sutton, a decision made a day after authorities in Florida disclosed their search for him in connection to a domestic violence case. Additionally, the team voided his previously guaranteed salary of $10.5 million for the year 2024.

Since police responded to an incident at a residence in a Tampa suburb on March 7, discovering a female victim with injuries consistent with assault, Sutton had been evading law enforcement.

At the time news of the warrant surfaced, Sutton was at the Lions’ facility in Allen Park, Michigan.

During the previous season, Sutton had been a regular starter for the Lions, featuring in all 20 games, including postseason matchups.
