Before retiring from the NFL, Aaron Donald told Rams coach Sean McVay that he felt satisfied after playing 10 seasons, but General Manager Les Snead still holds onto a bit of hope that Donald might reconsider.

During an interview on The Rich Eisen Show, Snead discussed Donald’s retirement decision and shared a conversation he had with him afterward. He mentioned how safety Eric Weddle came out of retirement to help the team win Super Bowl LVI and hinted to Donald that they might reach out to him again if they make it to the playoffs.

“I mentioned to Aaron that during our Super Bowl run, Eric Weddle joined us for the playoffs,” Snead explained. “We signed him to the practice squad and then elevated him for four straight games to win the Super Bowl.

So, I said if we make it to the playoffs again, maybe we’ll check in with him to see if he’s reconsidered. But that’s just speculation. I don’t think Aaron would do it. He’s very principled and might feel uncomfortable joining for the playoffs without going through the rest of the season with the team. We’ll see. It’s not confirmed yet.”

When Eric Weddle returned to play for the Rams, he didn’t have a Super Bowl ring. However, Aaron Donald already has one, along with many other career achievements. This might make the idea of him coming back seem unlikely, but it won’t hurt for Snead or the Rams to ask.
