Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors got ejected early in the game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night, marking his fourth ejection of the season.
This was Green’s first ejection since he served a 16-game suspension from the NBA for previous misconduct, including an incident where he struck Phoenix center Jusuf Nurkic during a game on December 12.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr commented, “It’s unfortunate. He deserved it, and he’ll bounce back,” after Golden State secured a 101-93 victory against the Magic.
The ejection occurred with 8:24 left in the first quarter when Green argued with referee Ron Acosta over a foul called on his teammate, Andrew Wiggins. Paolo Banchero of the Magic scored a layup on the play and added a free throw.
Green received two quick technical fouls for his behavior and was consequently ejected from the game. According to crew chief Mitchell Irvin, Green directed inappropriate language toward a game official after a prolonged argument.
Despite Green’s ejection, the Warriors delivered an outstanding defensive performance, holding the Magic to just 11 points on 3 for 22 shooting in the first quarter. Stephen Curry expressed frustration at Green’s ejection but praised the team’s collective effort in response.
With only 10 regular-season games remaining, Curry emphasized the importance of avoiding self-inflicted setbacks, especially in their quest to secure a play-in spot. He stressed the significance of having Green on the court and vowed to support him as a teammate and friend.
