Two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shaq Barrett wants to get back on the football field.

Barrett’s agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, told ESPN that Barrett has applied to be reinstated with the goal of being cleared to play again right away.

This news comes five months after Barrett announced his retirement from the NFL. The Miami Dolphins still hold his rights after he signed a one-year, $9 million contract in March.

Barrett, who went undrafted out of Colorado State in 2014, played in 131 games (85 starts) over nine NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos (2014-18) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019-23). He made two Pro Bowls during his career.

Over his career, Barrett recorded 400 tackles (73 for loss), 59 sacks, 22 forced fumbles, and three interceptions.

His best season was in 2019 with the Buccaneers, when he led the NFL with 19.5 sacks and made his first Pro Bowl. He also earned a second Pro Bowl spot in 2021 after recording 10 sacks.

Barrett won two Super Bowls: one with the Broncos in 2015 as a rookie, and another with the Buccaneers in 2020.
