The Detroit Lions will be without two of their top rookie cornerbacks, Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., when they play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. However, they might get back veteran Emmanuel Moseley.
Arnold, who was a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been ruled out due to a groin injury. He had been listed as questionable but was downgraded on Saturday.
Arnold had practiced partially on Thursday and fully on Friday. The 21-year-old cornerback, drafted 24th overall from Alabama, has started every game this season. He has recorded 38 tackles and six passes defended.
Rakestraw, drafted in the second round from Missouri, was placed on injured reserve after missing all practices last week. The 22-year-old, who has played in eight games this season, has six tackles. He has been on the field for 46 defensive snaps (8%) and 95 special teams snaps (42%).
Moseley, a veteran cornerback, returned to full practices this week after being activated from injured reserve on Saturday. The 28-year-old is in his second season with the Lions. He only played one game last season before being placed on injured reserve in October 2023.
Moseley had been on IR since August 27 with the possibility of returning. Prior to joining Detroit, Moseley played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2018 to 2022, where he totaled 162 tackles, four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), and 33 passes defensed in 46 games (33 starts).
The Lions also promoted linebacker David Long to the active roster on Saturday. Long, who is 28 years old, was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday after being released by the Miami Dolphins on November 13. He started six of the eight games he played for Miami this season and recorded 38 tackles.
In other news, wide receiver Jameson Williams was fined $19,697 for unsportsmanlike conduct. This fine came after he made an obscene gesture during a touchdown celebration in the Lions’ 52-6 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Williams, 23, scored on a 65-yard pass from Jared Goff in the third quarter.
