Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is hoping to be back in action this weekend, according to manager Arne Slot on Tuesday.
The Brazilian player is recovering from a hamstring injury and will miss Liverpool’s League Cup match against West Ham on Wednesday.
Caoimhin Kelleher, the backup keeper, took Alisson’s place in the 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday and will continue as the starter against West Ham.
“Alisson is making progress, but this game is just a bit too soon for him. We’re aiming for the weekend against Wolves, but it will be close,” Slot said. “He won’t be playing tomorrow, so Caoimh will be in goal.”
Federico Chiesa, the Italian forward, may have his first start for Liverpool against West Ham. Slot mentioned that Chiesa is still getting back to full fitness.
“I don’t think he can play a full 90 minutes yet; he has only played 25 minutes at most in the last few months,” he said. “But we believe he is ready to start.”
