Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is dealing with a troublesome hamstring injury and might not play in Saturday’s match against Bournemouth at Anfield.
This week, Alisson raised concerns about busy schedules before helping Liverpool secure a 3-1 win over AC Milan in the Champions League.
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, mentioned on Friday that Alisson had been playing through this issue during the match in Milan.
“I think he didn’t get injured in the Milan game; it happened a bit earlier, but after that match, he started feeling it more,” Slot said at a news conference. “Now we need to see if he is ready to play tomorrow or if we need to wait a few more days.”
If Alisson can’t play, Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to step in as the team looks to avoid losing two Premier League matches in a row. Liverpool suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield last week.
Slot said that Alisson’s injury doesn’t seem serious, describing it as “a slight issue with one of his muscles.”
Before the game against Milan, Alisson joined other players in discussing the stress of a heavy match schedule. He played for Brazil during the recent international break and participated in the Copa America over the summer.
The new Champions League format that started this week adds even more games to the calendar.
“If you are tired, you cannot compete at a high level,” Alisson said before the Milan match. “Sometimes nobody asks the players what they think about adding more games, so maybe our opinion doesn’t matter.”
