Logan Webb pitched for seven innings and allowed just one run, while Thairo Estrada hit two home runs to lead the San Francisco Giants to an easy 11-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
Webb, who finished as the runner-up for the NL Cy Young Award in 2023, gave up six hits and brought down his ERA from 4.86 to 3.80. Giants manager Bob Melvin praised Webb’s performance, highlighting his importance in the game and the team’s need for such solid outings.
San Francisco had struggled recently, losing three out of their last four games. Alongside Estrada’s impressive batting, LaMonte Wade Jr., Jorge Soler, and Matt Chapman also contributed home runs for the Giants, breaking their seven-game dry spell without a homer.
The Rays, facing a challenging situation, even had catcher Ben Rortvedt pitch for the final two innings, where he managed to hold off the Giants’ offense, although giving up one run.
Estrada’s solo homer in the fourth inning off Ryan Pepiot set the tone for the Giants’ offensive spree, with Wade adding a two-run shot in the fifth inning, giving San Francisco a comfortable lead.
Despite Tampa Bay’s efforts to catch up, the Giants continued their onslaught, with Mike Yastrzemski and Patrick Bailey adding runs in the sixth inning, followed by Soler and Estrada’s homers in the seventh.
The Giants started strong with Michael Conforto’s run-scoring double in the first inning, but the Rays managed to tie it briefly in the third inning before falling behind as the game progressed.
