John Love and Andy Borregales brought some excitement to the game between Virginia Tech and No. 7 Miami on Friday night as they headed into halftime.
They are the kickers, and they both made impressive long kicks just 20 seconds apart to finish the first half. Love kicked a 57-yard field goal for Virginia Tech, and Borregales responded with a 56-yarder for Miami on the last play of the half.
At halftime, the Hokies led 24-17 in their first game of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Love also kicked a 52-yarder in the second half, but Miami came back to win the game 38-34.
This was the first FBS game since October 28, 2017, when both teams made a field goal of at least 56 yards, according to SportRadar.
The NCAA noted that there were only 14 field goals of 56 yards or more in the entire 2023 season, and Love and Borregales have already made 10 of those kicks in 2024.
