Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout won’t be playing for Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday night. He’s ending his minor league rehab assignment after only one game to undergo further evaluation in Southern California.
Trout started his rehab stint with Salt Lake on Tuesday but had to leave after just two innings due to discomfort in his surgically repaired left knee.
Before the Angels’ game in Seattle on Wednesday, manager Ron Washington mentioned that Trout had initially felt better, and there was hope he could serve as the designated hitter for Salt Lake that evening.
However, later in the day, the Angels announced that Trout wouldn’t be in the lineup and would instead return to Southern California.
Trout was placed on the injured list on April 30 due to a torn meniscus, having posted a .220 batting average with 10 home runs and 14 RBIs in 29 games before his injury. This setback adds to a series of injuries Trout has faced in recent seasons.
Last year, Trout played only 82 games because of a broken hamate bone. In 2022, he spent five weeks on the IL due to a back injury, and in 2021, he missed most of the season due to a strained calf muscle.
