Pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Joe Kelly did not make the Los Angeles Dodgers roster for their NL Division Series against the San Diego Padres, which began on Saturday.

The Dodgers included Edgardo Henriquez, a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher who threw an average fastball of 98.7 mph in his first three major league games during the last week of the regular season.

Right-hander Michael Grove was added to the roster, but outfielder Kevin Kiermaier was left off.

Kershaw, who is 36 years old, has won the Cy Young Award three times and has been an All-Star ten times. He returned on July 25 after shoulder surgery but has been out since August 31 due to a bone spur in his left big toe.

Kelly, also 36 and a right-hander, did not pitch between August 30 and September 18 because of inflammation in his right shoulder, but he returned to play in four games late in the season.

San Diego added right-handers Martín Pérez and Alek Jacob, who were not on the roster for the Wild Card Series against Atlanta. The Padres removed infielder Nick Ahmed and right-hander Joe Musgrove, who requires Tommy John surgery.

Ben Lively was not included in Cleveland’s roster for the AL Division Series against Detroit, even though he was a valuable part of the Guardians’ starting rotation this season.

The New York Yankees left off pitcher Marcus Stroman and reliever Mark Leiter Jr., along with injured infielders Anthony Rizzo and DJ LeMahieu, for their best-of-five series against Kansas City. They did include relievers Jake Cousins and Tim Mayza, as well as Duke Ellis, who has only played in five major league games.

Philadelphia filled its last bullpen spot with left-hander Kolby Allard, who had just four starts and three relief appearances this season, over right-handers Max Lazar and Spencer Turnbull.

The New York Mets added right-hander Kodai Senga, who made only one start and pitched 5 1/3 innings, and he was set to start Saturday’s game against the Phillies. Right-hander Tylor Megill, who was not on the Wild Card Series roster against Milwaukee after starting against Atlanta on Monday, was also added. Right-handers Max Kranick and Huascar Brazoban were dropped from the roster.
