Catcher Will Smith and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a big contract on Wednesday. It’s a $140 million deal that lasts for 10 years. With this signing, the Dodgers have spent a lot of money on five key players since December. Smith’s new contract replaces the one-year deal worth $8.85 million that he agreed to in January.

Smith had a good start to the week, getting five hits and two RBIs in a series against San Diego in Seoul, South Korea. Last year, he made it to the All-Star game for the first time.

He hit .261 with 19 home runs and 76 RBIs. Over his six seasons with the Dodgers, Smith has a batting average of .263 with 91 home runs and 308 RBIs. If he hadn’t signed this new contract, he would have been able to become a free agent after the 2025 season.

The Dodgers have now spent a total of $1,365,687,500 on five players. This includes Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernández, and Will Smith.
