The Los Angeles Galaxy made a bold move last year by parting ways with veteran goalkeeper Jonathan Bond and turning their sights on the Western Conference for a replacement. Their choice, John McCarthy, proved instrumental in their championship triumph. The Galaxy has now continued this trend, signing another goalkeeper from an in-state rival, further strengthening their goalkeeping lineup.

JT Marcinkowski Joins the Galaxy

JT Marcinkowski, previously with the San Jose Earthquakes, has signed with the Galaxy in a deal extending through the 2026 season, with an option for 2027. Marcinkowski brings a wealth of experience, highlighted by his standout performances in 2024, particularly against the formidable LAFC. His efforts included a 2-1 upset win on May 6, where he made six saves, and subsequent matches that showcased his resilience and skill despite varying outcomes.

Throughout 2024, Marcinkowski demonstrated his reliability, tallying impressive saves and maintaining composure under pressure. Notably, in a July 8 draw against LAFC, he recorded four saves, contributing to a balanced contest. His track record includes four clean sheets in 2024, matching his performance from the previous year with the Earthquakes, highlighting his consistency as a top-tier goalkeeper.

Galaxy’s Perspective on the Signing

The Los Angeles Galaxy’s management is optimistic about Marcinkowski’s addition, emphasizing his potential to bring depth and competition to their goalkeeping squad. General Manager Will Kuntz expressed enthusiasm for the move, underscoring the team’s focus on building a robust roster to sustain their championship ambitions. With McCarthy as the primary goalkeeper, Marcinkowski’s presence adds a layer of security and versatility.

In addition to Marcinkowski, the Galaxy has re-signed Brady Scott on a one-year deal and retained Novak Micovic, rounding out their goalkeeping corps. This strategic bolstering comes as the Galaxy prepares to defend their MLS Cup title. The first clash between the Galaxy and Marcinkowski’s former team, the San Jose Earthquakes, is set for a Wednesday night in Carson, California, before Memorial Day weekend in 2025—a match sure to carry added intrigue and excitement.
