Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. exited Friday’s game against the Kansas City Royals due to a left hip flexor injury.
Robert experienced discomfort at second base after hitting a one-out double in the ninth inning of the White Sox’s 2-1 loss to the Royals. Clearly in pain, he received assistance from Chicago trainers before leaving the field on his own.
As one of the few White Sox batters performing well this season, Robert holds a .214 batting average with two home runs and leads the team with four RBIs.
The team has struggled, losing six of their first seven games and scoring only 10 runs in those losses.
“It’s unfortunate to see one of the top players in the game get injured like that,” remarked White Sox manager Pedro Grifol. “It’s tough to fill the void left by someone like him. You can’t easily replace a player of his caliber.”
Robert had a standout season in 2023, hitting 38 home runs with 80 RBIs and earning his first All-Star selection. He previously suffered a similar injury in 2021, missing 85 games and over three months of the season.
