Lukas Rosol, known for his victory over Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon 2012, has announced his retirement through a post on social media.
The 38-year-old Czech player, once ranked as high as 26th in the world, clinched two titles during his career – Bucharest in 2013 and Winston-Salem in 2014. However, Rosol’s breakthrough moment came at Wimbledon in 2012.
Ranked 100th at the time, he defeated Nadal, a two-time champion and the second seed, in a thrilling five-set match in the second round.
“I think I won’t be playing much next year because I now have a young son. I want to spend a lot of time with him and enjoy family moments. Yes, it’s time for me to gradually step back.
I haven’t decided on a specific date yet, but the new generation of players is very strong and agile. It’s challenging to compete against them,” Rosol shared in an interview last year.
