Despite an improved effort, Nic Dowd and the struggling Washington Capitals couldn’t secure a win against the Buffalo Sabres, slipping out of the top eight in the Eastern Conference standings.

Dowd expressed disappointment in the outcome, acknowledging the team’s recent struggles. The Capitals have now lost two consecutive games to the Sabres within nine days, dropping to a record of 1-5-2 in their last eight games.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s 22 saves helped the Sabres spoil the Capitals’ playoff hopes, as they aim to end their NHL-record playoff drought.

Goals from Alex Tuch, Zach Benson, Jack Quinn, and Dylan Cozens sealed the win for Buffalo.

With three games left, the Capitals are in ninth place, tied with Detroit and Philadelphia. Despite goals from Connor McMichael and Tom Wilson, the Capitals have struggled to score three or more goals in their recent outings.

Despite controlling much of the game, the Capitals couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. Jack Quinn’s goal further solidified the Sabres’ victory, highlighting their speed and creativity. Alex Tuch’s goal in the second period extended Buffalo’s lead, showcasing the Sabres’ offensive prowess.
