Rookie Macklin Celebrini scored his first career overtime goal, and William Eklund scored twice to help the San Jose Sharks defeat the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Monday.

Tyler Toffoli and Luke Kunin also found the net, and Alexander Wennberg added two assists for the Sharks, who ended a three-game losing streak (0-1-2). Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 16 saves in the win.

For the Red Wings, Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist, while Marco Kasper, Michael Rasmussen, and Alex DeBrincat also scored. Goalie Cam Talbot stopped 29 shots. Detroit has won only one of their last six games (1-3-2).

Celebrini, the top pick in this year’s draft, scored the game-winning goal just 46 seconds into overtime, shooting across the crease for his fourth goal of the season.

The game saw a lot of back-and-forth action, with Detroit losing three leads and San Jose giving up a third-period advantage.

Larkin opened the scoring at 7:28 in the first period, taking advantage of a Sharks turnover to score his 11th goal of the season.

Eklund quickly responded for San Jose, scoring on a power play just three minutes later by tapping in a loose puck in the slot.

Detroit answered with a goal by Kasper, who scored a rebound goal on the power play with 72 seconds left in the first period, making it 2-1. That was his second goal of the season.

Eklund tied the game again at 5:59 in the second period with a long shot that Detroit’s Talbot misplayed, allowing Eklund to score his fourth of the year. Eklund has now scored two goals and four assists in his last four games.

Rasmussen put Detroit back ahead at 8:11 of the second period when he knocked the puck away from a Sharks player, and it deflected off another San Jose defender and into the net for his third goal of the season.

Toffoli tied the game once more with 41.8 seconds left in the second period, scoring a perfect one-timer from the slot for his ninth goal of the year.

Kunin gave the Sharks their first lead of the game at 6:19 of the third period. He got behind a defender on a rush and fired a top-corner shot into the net for his third goal of the season.

With 2:06 left in regulation, DeBrincat scored on the power play to tie the game and force overtime. That was his fourth goal of the season.
