Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been seen arriving in Spain, reportedly to undergo tests on a right knee injury he got during the match against Arsenal in the English Premier League over the weekend.
City has not officially commented on the issue, but British media reports suggest that Rodri may have an ACL injury and could be out for a long time.
Some Spanish media shared videos on social media of Rodri landing in Barcelona on Monday.
If Rodri is sidelined for an extended period, it would significantly hurt City’s chances of winning the Premier League for the fifth consecutive season. They currently lead the league by one point after five matches.
Rodri, who is considered a strong candidate for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, is a key player for City due to his role in protecting the defense and directing the team’s passing.
He had to leave the game in the 20th minute of the 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium after hurting his right knee while contesting with Arsenal’s Thomas Partey during a corner kick.
Just last week, Rodri mentioned that top players might soon consider striking because of the growing number of games they are required to play, as new competitions are added to an already busy soccer schedule.
